Sauk Prairie is the nickname for the adjacent villages of Sauk City and Prairie du Sac. Sauk is located on the west bank of the Wisconsin River in southeastern Sauk County, where U.S. Highway 12 crosses the Wisconsin River. The towns are a favorite winter destination for birders, as a power plant just north of town keeps a large pool of the river open in winter attracting dozens of eagles who fish those waters.
